What exactly is Lord of the Rings: Conquest?

Lord of the Rings: Conquest is the 'spiritual successor' to the Battlefront games. Players will be able to experience Middle-Earth like never before, taking part in all the huge battles from the films and books. With combined mechanics of a third person shooter and beat 'em up melee system, Lord of the Rings: Conquest is sure to offer players a new experience in the Lord of the Rings universe.

 

Who is developing the game?

Lord of the Rings: Conquest is being developed by Pandemic Studios, and is published by EA.

 

How long has the game been in developement for?

Lord of the Rings: Conquest has been in development for almost 2 years.

 

What platforms will Conquest be released on?

Lord of the Rings: Conquest will be released on the Xbox 360, PS3, PC and Nintendo DS.

 

When will Conquest be released?

A specific date has not yet been set for Lord of the Rings: Conquest, but is scheduled for release in Fall 2008.

 

What different modes will Conquest feature?

Lord of the Rings: Conquest will feature a variety of modes that will ensure plenty of replay value. There will be a campaign, split into 2 parts - the first part will faithfully follow the events of the films. The second part is an alternative ending: "What if Frodo failed in destroying the ring?" For the first time ever in a LOTR game, players will be able to play as evil and destroy Middle-Earth. In addition to the campaign, there will be plenty of online modes, an instant action mode and 'Strongholds'. Information about Strongholds is not currently known, but it is thought to be similar to Battlefront's 'Galactic Conquest'.

 

What maps will be playable in Conquest?

There has been no official list of maps yet, but here is what is confirmed so far:

- Osgilliath
- Minas Morgul
- Mount Doom
- Black Gate

 

What classes can you play as in Conquest?

There will be 4 playable classes in Conquest:

- Mage

- Scout

- Warrior

- Archer

 

Will you be able to play as your favourite heroes?

Yes. Pandemic have promised that you will be able to play as all the major heroes from the films and books, such as Aragorn and Gandalf. This will apply to both sides, so for the first time ever in a LOTR game you will be able to play as evil characters such as the Balrog, the Witch-King and Sauron himself. These heroes must be unlocked through good play, but are instantly accessible in hero deathmatch.

 

What online modes will Conquest have?

There will be several online modes in Lord of the Rings: Conquest. The following are confirmed:

- Deathmatch

- Hero deathmatch (same as deathmatch, but with heroes)

- Capture the flag

- Conquest (players try to capture territories across the level)

- Ringbearer (one player is Frodo whilst the rest are Nazgul. The player who kills Frodo becomes him, and points are awared by staying as Frodo for as long as possible)

There was also a hint in the IGN demonstration of a mode in which players team up to take down the Balrog, but no other information has been released about that.

 

How many players will Conquest support online?

Lord of the Rings: Conquest will support up to 16 players.

 

Will there be any co-op play in Conquest?

Yes. Lord of the Rings: Conquest will support up to 4 player co-op throughout the whole campaign, both online and splitscreen.
